What is CivicInk?

One Cause. One Letter. Once a Month.

Our elected officials in Congress want to stay informed and responsive to the needs of their constituents. A written letter from a passionate citizen holds elected officials accountable, communicates the will of the people, and expresses how the issues affect the lives of voters. Effective writing campaigns create political action.

Crowdsourcing Political Action.

For a monthly subscription of $8 we will send an informed, unique, and actionable letter in your name directly to your representative on the progressive issue of your choice. A real letter - paper, envelope, and stamp - seeking real change.

We will coordinate sending your letter alongside thousands of similarly unique, actionable letters from other subscribers for maximum impact.

A single voice can be discounted. A thousand coordinated voices cannot be ignored.

Anatomy of a CivicInk Letter.

Each letter is carefully written to reflect you as an individual and the issues you care about, using your unique profile.

Your letter is targeted directly to your representatives in Congress, and demands their action on a specific bill or issue; from climate change to reproductive rights. We will guide your letters to every level of our government for comprehensive and widespread change.

Personal, tangible letters take time and effort to write and carry an incredible amount of weight for directly engaging your representatives, even in today's world of Twitter and email. Letters are most effective during times of governmental change: before a major vote, during budget negotiations, and the start of a new administration. Now is the time to communicate our hopes, criticize harmful or apathetic policies, and create a more responsive system.

Get Involved.

It falls to each of us to be those anxious, jealous guardians of our democracy; to embrace the joyous task we’ve been given to continually try to improve this great nation of ours. Because for all our outward differences, we all share the same proud title: Citizen. Ultimately, that’s what our democracy demands. It needs you. Not just when there’s an election, not just when your own narrow interest is at stake, but over the full span of a lifetime.

We must not be willing to discard the policies and values that ground our identity and worth as a country, and a citizenry.

We can't afford to wait.

Why Letters?

Writing letters to your elected official is a time-honored and respected tradition undertaken by an involved and active citizen. Writing your representatives may seem like a small, antiquated act, but it carries weight:

First, letters allow you to engage directly with your elected official. It shows politicians that their constituents are paying attention and that they will be held accountable for their positions, policies, and actions in office.

Second, letters are efficient. They allow individuals to voice their concerns, and just one well-crafted letter can get a powerful point across to a representative and his or her staff. Cumulatively, across geographical regions and communities, they can have a great impact. A letter is a simple and direct tool that doesn't depend on the high level of organization and publicity that protests and demonstrations require in order to be effective.

Third, every letter written to a representative is read either by the representative or the representative's staff. Rest assured that your position will be counted.

Fourth, issues that inspire many letters will be especially noted by the representative and his or her staff. Your letters, when combined with thousands of others, will be impossible to ignore.

It is our civic duty to participate in our own government to the fullest extent possible. We have witnessed the consequences of disengaging from the political process. We must join and double our efforts now.

Participating in CivicInk is simple and easy, and allows your voice to be coordinated with others to maximize impact.

The battle is not fought once every four years.

Our Constitution is a remarkable, beautiful gift. But it’s really just a piece of parchment. It has no power on its own. We, the people, give it power – with our participation, and the choices we make. Whether or not we stand up for our freedoms. Whether or not we respect and enforce the rule of law. America is no fragile thing. But the gains of our long journey to freedom are not assured.
